Did Apple buy iMuff maker? Nope
Rumors are just rumors until the skinny guy speaks. Although he’s remained silent on the issue, the acquiree has popped to voice his disappointment at not being acquired and then there’s the inconvenient truth that buying iMuff is illegal in most states.
Macworld, damn their fact checking bones, did something almost unthinkable. That is, rather than take recent rumors that Apple had purchased Wi-Gear, maker of the iMuff and other fine audio Bluetooth headgear, at face value, they actually asked someone knowledgable if ’twas true.
“I wish!” said Wi-Gear CEO Mark Pundsack said via e-mail. “Wi-Gear and its IP are still available for sale.”
The rumor quickly gained traction when bloggers discovered that Wi-Gear’s website indicated that the company is out of business. Further fuel for the fire came via a listing on Wi-Gear co-founder and engineer Michael Kim’s LinkedIn page, which said he’s currently employed at Apple as an iOS Bluetooth engineer.
But, alas, there will be no iMuff for Steve…
What’s your take?
