It’s the Beatles [back to your knitting]
No live streaming service announcement and no new info on Apple’s big hunk o’ server iron in North Carolina. No, we haven’t gotten iOS 4.2 (yet) either. There are a pair free Beatles movies and some interesting Apple TV ads in the mix, too.
Apple has announced that the the Beatles catalog is now available via iTunes. The group’s 13 legendary studio albums have been remastered and issues as iTunes LPs, the two-volume Past Masters compilation and the classic Red and Blue collections are available for purchase and download on iTunes worldwide as either albums or individual songs. Fans can also get a special digital Beatles Box Set ($149) featuring the Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964 concert film, a worldwide iTunes exclusive which captures the Beatles’ very first U.S. concert.
“We’re really excited to bring the Beatles’ music to iTunes. It’s fantastic to see the songs we originally released on vinyl receive as much love in the digital world as they did the first time around” — Sir Paul McCartney.
“I am particularly glad to no longer be asked when the Beatles are coming to iTunes. “At last, if you want it—you can get it now—The Beatles from Liverpool to now! Peace and Love, Ringo” — Ringo Starr.
“In the joyful spirit of Give Peace A Chance, I think it is so appropriate that we are doing this on John’s 70th birthday year” — Yoko Ono.
“The Beatles on iTunes—Bravo!” — Olivia Harrison.
“We love the Beatles and are honored and thrilled to welcome them to iTunes. It has been a long and winding road to get here. Thanks to the Beatles and EMI, we are now realizing a dream we’ve had since we launched iTunes ten years ago” — Steve Jobs.
Single albums are available for purchase and download for $12.99 each, double albums for $19.99 each and individual songs for $1.29 each.
There are some gimmes available on Apple.com, including Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964, The Beatles Through the Years documentary and Apple’s own TV spots, five in all, celebrating the group’s arrival on iTunes. Well, there’s some good stuff, the quality’s good, to watch on the iPad today while you do your knitting.
Kudos to Steve Jobs for finally landing the Beatles and here’s hoping EMI can get themselves out of debt before the company fades to black…
What’s your take?

Um, you mean darning (“…her socks in the night when there’s nobody there”).
Hey, as a Beatles fan, I am ecstatic. And the whole collection is only $149??? I would have thought it would have been much more.
