iPad, iPod touch top Cyber Monday sellers
What’s in your online shopping cart? Chances are, especially since you’re reading this on a Mac-centric blog, you had Apple products in there and this year the most-popular items include the company’s iPod touch and the really big iPod touch. Ready to buy?
CNN hit the ether for a quick survey of Cyber Monday buying and discovered something unremarkable — Apple products own two of the top five spots. Unsurprisingly, the iPad is among the top sellers.
EBay offered 400 iPads at 10 percent off as a Daily Deal today. The online auction site said they sold out in 20 minutes. “We’re seeing incredible velocity around discounted electronics,” said eBay spokesman Johnna Hoff.
They didn’t say how many they sold. If they had 10,000 for sale, that’s impressive.
Close substitutes
Interestingly, Apple’s littlest iPad is among the best-selling items at WalMart.
As of Sunday, Nov. 28, the hottest selling item on Walmart.com was Apple’s newest 8GB iPod Touch, bundled with an accessories kit that includes a car charger, USB cable, dust cover and cleaning cloth for $210, regularly $249.
And, that’s not a bad deal and likely one of the sources of the device’s popularity. That is, the iPad and iPhone both are quite expensive and parents like to shunt their kids into the iPod touch, which is a pretty good compromise both in terms of cost and functionality.
It’s also a very good compromise for Apple, which owns the most popular electronic device of the year in the iPad as well as its closest substitute…
