Norman Foster to design new Apple campus, says rumor
Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop Campus is beautiful in an ’80s sort of way. However, with 100 freshly purchased acres, Steve Jobs could be planning a major a remaking of the place Apple calls home and one of the world’s most-renowned architects is believed to have won the commission.
In late November, Apple’s said to have closed on a 100-acre former HP campus in Cupertino, which includes some 57 buildings. With the company’s headcount going by tens of thousands every year, they obviously need the space.
However, Steve Jobs and Apple might be doing a bit more than simply moving in and taking occupancy. El Ecomista (Spanish, Google translation) reports that Norman Foster, the architectural genius that created the the Reichstag dome and Beijing Airport, has been commissioned to remake all or part of Apple’s campuses.

[T]he future headquarters of the company Steve Jobs care especially environmental issues, to the point that the entire road transport transit through a network of tunnels that will clear the surface areas green. The buildings which will house the engineers and R&D will also be multifunctional and will incorporate cutting-edge technology in materials and equipment as well as renewable energy resources.
With some $50-billion in cash and short-term investments, Apple’s clearly has the financial wherewithal to deliver a stunning architectural gem.
