iMac price cut coming in 2011, say sources

We’re due for a Mac update sometime over the next 100 days or so. However, this time around a new rumor posits that we can expect some fairly significant changes when Apple introduces professional portables with updated enclosures and a newly affordable all-in-one desktop.

Quoting unnamed component maker sources, DigiTimes reports that Apple will launch updated MacBook Pro and iMac models in the first half of 2011. This, of course, isn’t particularly newsworthy as Spring Mac product refreshes are something of a tradition.

However, DigiTimes adds that Apple plans to roll four upgraded MacBook Pros (i.e. the full line) with a revised if not wholly new enclosure. Additionally, updated iMacs are also in the cards with a new model featuring a new panel size and mainstream price point.

That said, an $899 or $999 20-inch model, though relatively expensive by PC standards, would likely be warmly welcomed by consumers, including this one…
