Apple to add CDMA iPad 2 to lineup for Verizon?

December 28, 2010

If a new rumor turns out to be true, Apple may well have three models of the next generation iPad instead of two, adding a CDMA tablet to the existing Wi-Fi only and UMTS models.

The ever-present (at least in the rumor mill) Taiwanese DigiTimes site has set free yet another iPad rumor based on Asian supplier reports. This time, the rumor has it that Apple will be building a new CDMA version of the iPad tablet beginning as soon as January, perhaps with a run of a half million or so, according to an AppleInsider story.

When the three lines get into production, they are expected to produce iPads in a ratio of 3:4:3, WiFi, UMTS, and CDMA, respectively. There are, of course, many outlets for a CDMA iPads worldwide, including Verizon in the USA and the primary  wireless providers in China, Korea and Japan. Such an addition could be expected to turn up the volume on iPad sales as soon as it comes out of the box.
