Rose: iPad 2 to debut in 3, 4 weeks

January 8, 2011

Given all of the noise we’ve been hearing from Apple’s Asian supply chain, this seems to be a pretty safe bet. Further, specifics the Digg founder does provide re-inforce what’s already been said. So, why’s he schlepping reheated rumors? To promote his newest online venture and, no, it’s not free.

Kevin Rose has put up a blog post that links back to a new newsletter — if you really wanna find that, it won’t take too much effort — that offers the following:

From: Kevin Rose

I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks,” possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.

If you’re thinking of buying an iPad, hold off for now.

Kevin

UPDATE: Spoke w/another source, the display has a “higher dpi,” but not technically a retina display. This seems odd to me, we’ll have to wait and see…

And, well, as we knew back at the end of December, iPad 2 production will ramp at the end of this month, so an announcement around the same time makes sense.

Additionally, the grapevine told us before Christmas that displays with more pixels are on the way.

Well, thanks for that, Kev, and good luck with the newsletter…

What’s your take?
