New iMacs next week
Sandy Bridge, Thunderbolt and maybe even Retina display? The speculation continues to mount with fresh rumors that an updated Apple all-in-one is just days away. Whatever the case, it’s about time for a new iMac on my desk, so I’m keenly watching these developments.
A fresh report from Electronista says we should expect updated iMacs sometime from May 2 through May 5. However, Apple generally releases new product on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
As of this writing, the online Apple Store still lists the iMac with 24-hour availability, though Electronista says shipments of these models will stop sometime this week. However, various third-party resellers both here and abroad are experiencing iMac spot shortages.
Speeds and feeds
It’s all but certain that the iMacs will be Intel Sandy Bridge-based and ship with one or more Thunderbolt ports, Apple’s hugely fast successor to FireWire. Additionally, the recent revelation that OS X Lion beta ships with 1024 x 1024 icons and desktop pictures up to 3000 x 2000 has led many to speculate that upcoming Mac will ship with super high-resolution, a.k.a. Retina, displays.
That said, the blogsphere is alive with reports that white iPhones are en route to retailers.
A new iMac or maybe a previous generation refurbished model would more appropriate? Mmm, new toys to play with…
What’s your take?
