Billions of reasons Jobs should run
When was the last time, we had a businessman — not some person of privilege born to wealth — as president? Maybe never. I rather doubt Apple CEO Steve Jobs, assuming he’s even healthy enough, would want the job, but we really need a man of vision right about now.
As America watches a simple situation spiral out of control in the name maintaining corporate socialism, a multi-trillion dollar giveaway for the rich, comes the odd bit of news that Apple, Inc has more money (BBC) than the United States government. Yup, our favorite fruit company has $76.4 billion in cash and the U.S. Treasury Department claims a meager $73.7 billion.
That said, Apple once faced oblivion and it was pulled back from the brink by Steve Jobs who rationalized — i.e. got rid of — a lot products and focussed like a laser on the company’s core competencies. Since then, the product base has again expended and computing, music and mobile have undergone Apple-inspired revolutions.
Fourteen years of sound management and visionary innovation have resulted in Apple’s huge cash surplus.
I’m not suggesting the government should be run like a corporation. However, our government could benefit mightily from Steve Jobs laser focus on core competency, efficiency and delivering products and services that just work. And, honestly, who wouldn’t want to see Microsoft products banned and Steve Ballmer impaled on the Washington Monument…
What’s your take?

It would be fascinating to see Steve Jobs as president, but choosing a skilled leader is not really the problem, as I see it. The difficulty is that we have a substantial minority acting as a cult. The extreme right wing lives by ideology, not by reason. The moderates and the progressives are willing to be convinced on any policy as long as you can show them some evidence that a given policy will help the country. The tea baggers, Birchers, birthers, tenthers and such hold fast to their ideologies as acts of faith and as such no amount of fact or reason will induce them to compromise.

We’ve all see 7 years of overspending and liberal policies. Not sure we can survive for much longer following the same path. The evidence of failure is in today’s headlines but the “moderates” and progressives want to double down on the failure and increase taxes and spend more. That’s their ideological answer for everything — even though it’s clearly failing.
According to http://www.usdebtclock.org, there’s a $1 million+ dollar liability per taxpayer. I can’t pay for my million. How about you?
We’ve got to STOP SPENDING more than we have! That’s not idealistic, it’s common sense. Everyone knows it except the gullible followers of those who want to get you hooked on that “free” government “assistance”. Once you’re hooked, you’ll defend the politician who’ll keep it coming. The more that are hooked, the more votes for the tax and spend, government control, power hungry, liberals.

Enough “faith based” economics already…

Or maybe we should bring back Clinton who gave us a surplus, and make sure we never elect another Bush who indebted us for 1.4 trillion with tax cuts for the wealthy.

How can Steve Jobs run for president? Most of the reports about Steve Jobs claim he is dying and only has a few months left. I’m sure that’s why most of Wall Street say that Apple is in a perilous state and that Steve Jobs has to be replaced by someone immediately.
All the hedge fund managers swear that he is dying and that he’s the biggest liability to Apple. Hedge fund managers seem to know everything about Steve Jobs and Apple and that’s why they think investing in Apple is a huge risk. So honestly, it wouldn’t make much sense at all the elect a president who wouldn’t be able to live out a full term if he only has months left at most.

@Jeff:
Your choices are power hungry, tax and spend, government control, liberals or power hungry, borrow and spend, screw the little guy, conservatives. How big is yours?
Look at Apple: It is not that Apple doesn’t spend; APPLE DOES NOT BORROW!!!

@Tmh: (1) Clinton had the good fortune of being president during the dot com boom. Something which he had nothing to do with. (2) The Republicans who were in power in Congress balanced the budget. Clinton just signed his name to it. So to say it was Clinton who gave us a surplus is inaccurate. Also, the federal debt was not erased and replaced with a surplus. Only the deficit for that year had a surplus. Look up federal debt vs federal deficit for clarification.
Clinton is just another tax and spend liberal. Putting him (or her) in office now is not much better than what we have now. Bush was not a fiscal conservative either. He also spent too much. What we need is a president and congress full of fiscal conservatives (of either party) to cut back on bloated government spending.
If that happens, those who have become dependent on the government’s “assistance” will scream. The liberal media will be there to broadcast their every tear and blame it on the evil and uncaring politicians. Unfortunately we just don’t have an unlimited amount of money to support all the people who’ve become dependent on their government check AND those baby boomers lined up to overload the system, of which I am one.
Also, you mindlessly parrot the liberal’s “tax cuts for the wealthy” phrase. Well, tmh, the top 10 percent of earners pay 70% of all federal taxes. ANY federal tax cut is going to affect that 10% more than anyone else. The 46% of Americans who pay no federal income taxes can’t possibly pay any less now can they? It’s the wealthy who drive the economy, create jobs and create wealth for others. Taxing them hurts the poor the most! Lift the tax burden. Let them create jobs so the poor can work and pay taxes. And watch the tax revenues GROW. Kennedy (a democrat) did it. Reagan did it. It’s proven to work every time.
Think for yourself people!! The information is at your fingertips. Look up the facts and make up your own mind. Stop thinking the news media is unbiased and pure. It’s not. You can’t rely on them for a true picture of what’s going on.

O Carlson has gone off the rails. We already have enough issues with government secrecy and strong arm control.
