Court bars Galaxy Tab until at least Sept 30

August 29, 2011

Another month, another injunction (or whatever they’re called in Oz). Apple and Samsung appeared in a Sydney court today and were told to get their cases together. Thereupon, whatever the ultimate outcome of Cupertino’s legal attempts to bar the Galaxy Tab down under, they’ve at least achieved another temporary victory.

Sydney Morning Herald notes that the makers of the iPad and Galaxy Tab faced off in court earlier today where a judge, or judges, instructed them to prepare for battle. Thereupon, Apple has been ordered prepare a detailed list by Sept. 5 of patents they say Samsung has infringed vis-a-vis their tablet.

Samsung will provides its answers to these charges by Sept. 16 and both are to appear again in court for formal hearings on Sept. 26 and 29.

Although it’s unlikely that Steve Jobs will appear, the court has said executives and/or inventors from both companies are welcome to testify at the hearings.

So, will the Galaxy Tab be banned outright in Oz or does Samsung stand a fighting chance? Then again, given the trail of erstwhile competitors left crushed in the iPad’s wake, these legal machinations perhaps don’t even matter…

What’s your take?
