Apple TV: More signal than noise?
Roll your eyes and groan — here comes a rumorological musing fresh from the Silicon Isle. Yup, Taiwan and that invariably means DigiTimes. Whereas I’ve studiously avoided reporting the latest Apple TV — a real, honest-to-goodness television — emanations wafting on the breeze from that source, discernible and believable patterns are forming.
Having been suckered in the past, I’ve pretty much stuck to the real Apple TV news this year.
Nevertheless, a range of websites both of the reliable and not so much variety have been adding to the Apple TV set story. We certainly could be getting snookered again, but are plenty of reasons to believe this time around.
First off, there have been consistent rumors out of Sharp generally via DigiTimes for months that television set prototypes have been produced. The latest is that Apple will begin manufacturing 32 and 37 inch models in the first quarter. That could new product in our hands during Apple’s traditional March/April launch window.
Additionally, there have been whispers that Apple executives haven been chatting up their counterparts at the big media companies and studios.
Because he said so…
Lastly, all of this ties neatly into a Steve Jobs quote biographer Walter Isaacson loosed on the world back in October.
I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use. It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it” — Steve Jobs
With Siri, Apple’s meme of the year digital assistant, running roughshod over mobile search, the the nut of Steve’s “simplest user interface” is already taking the world by storm. Now Apple just needs to pair with a game hungry A5 processor and Sharp flat screen, and the rest could be history.
Does all of this add up to a for real and true Apple-branded television set? We’ve gone cleared eyed down this garden path before and been disappointed, but this time ’round will be different. Think really different…
What’s your take?

I’m skeptical about how helpful Siri would be with a TV set. I mean, it is great for a phone that uses phone numbers and maps and the internet everywhere you go. However when it comes to TV, wouldn’t a normal search just do the job? I guess that is where Apple gets people. Of course it is all rumors, but it would be interesting to see an actual Apple branded TV set.

Not Siri, but midichlorians. The Apple TV will sense what you want to watch.

And they’re Communist–Capitalist-! (Somehow we keep making the mistake of thinking that capitalism is a form of Gov’t. It’s not. It’s just an economic model – which doesn’t really work very well, all things considered-.)
