Mac Gamers: Update your Retina MacBook

Apple released an update to their Retina MacBook Pro laptops that should make gamers happier.

The update addresses gaming frame rates and fan issues. Everyone loves a cooler laptop. From Apple:

This update resolves a rare issue where users may experience slow frame rates when playing graphics-intensive games on the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It also includes bug fixes for Power Nap, wake from sleep and fan control. (SMC Update v1.1)

Some Retina MacBook users have complained about sporadic activity by the computer’s fan. The ultra-high resolution MacBook requires some extra power with all of those extra pixels, and can heat up quickly. A strong fan is certainly need.

As for this blogger who’s typing on a 13-inch Retina MacBook, I can say that I haven’t had any problem. But then again, I’m not a gamer. I write, which doesn’t take much power.

Some users have said they need to reset their computer before playing games like World of Warcraft.
