Psystar, the firm behind the Mac clones at the heart of an ongoing legal battle with Apple, is to add Blu-ray burning capabilities to its machines – a feature not available in genuine Macs. The firm is also launching a notebook based on the Mac operating system.

Apple is continuing its series of TV commercials accusing Microsoft of emphasizing marketing over fixing problems with Windows. However, several sources have pointed out the financial realities aren’t much different to Apple’s own spending.

Officials now believe the fake news story about Steve Jobs’ health which caused a brief slump in Apple’s share price was the work of an 18 year old prankster. It appears he or she didn’t capitalise on the scare through buying and selling stock.

Apple’s profits are up by 25% compared with last year despite slightly missing analyst expectations on revenues. The firm says economic problems shouldn’t cost it customers, but is being cautious about its forecasts for 2009.

It turns out that situation, with Psystar accusing Apple of exploiting a monopoly, is still being hotly disputed.

It appears that the ongoing case between Apple and Psystar, a firm it accuses of illegally selling computers running the Leopard operating system, may not see the inside of a courtroom. The two sides have agreed to go through alternative dispute resolution (ADR), a process designed to produce a negotiated settlement.
