Strands wants to give you and a friend a Mac!

October 8, 2008

If you haven’t heard of Strands, it is an application that is trying to compete against existing big names like FriendFeed in the life-streaming and aggregation sphere. I personally like the Strands interface much better than FriendFeed, but Strands suffers right now from FriendFeed’s popularity and early endorsement by technology evangelists like Robert Scoble and Louis Gray.

Apple calls industry bluff, royalties stay static, iTunes stays open

October 5, 2008

Last week we talked about Apple challenging the music industry’s royalty rate hike, throwing down a gauntlet by saying that iTunes would be closed outright if Royalties increased. We speculated that they may not follow through, but now we won’t have to find out. The industry caved to their demands and the iTunes store will be staying open, with songs at 99 cents a song.

SyncMate helps your Windows Mobile phone talk to your Mac with OS X

October 4, 2008

If you are one of many Mac users who chose a Windows Mobile phone over an iPhone, you have probably had trouble syncing your data between the phone and the computer at some point. Sure the Mac will do some limited file transfer using Bluetooth and your phone’s Bluetooth and/or Beam feature, but it isn’t a true backup.

CNN’s iReport leads to Apple stock drop on citizen journalist talk of Jobs health

October 3, 2008

Citizen journalism gone awry or short selling scam, you can’t deny that the drop in Apple stock that cost stock holders so much money was directly correlated to the CNN iReport story that falsely reported Steve Jobs as having had a heart attack. This is bad news for both CNN and Apple, and rankles with aspiring citizen journalists everywhere.

The economic slump vs Apple’s bottom line

October 1, 2008

The entire world knows that there is a huge economic crisis going on in America. While the Senate and the House get busy spending the hard earned money of Americans to save a few fat cats and (theoretically) prop up the economy long enough for these average citizens to earn enough to start paying for this Misguided Master Planâ„¢, there is only one question on the mind of the true Mac loyalist. That question is “But how will this crisis affect Apple?”

Apple throws music pricing gauntlet down in front of Copyright Royalty Board

October 1, 2008

Apple responded to news that the music industry was attempting to get the Copyright Royalty Board to increase royalties from digital music by throwing down the gauntlet that they would close the iTunes store rather than gauge customers. The music industry would like the consumer to pay more than the industry standard of 99 cents a song – much more in some cases, and Apple’s VP of iTunes has made it clear Apple is not interested in playing ball.
