An iPhone OS-based device that’s all about streaming with next to zero local storage? That sounds like a Hollywood executive’s wet dream, but those guys at NBC and Warner aren’t welcome because they choose not to be, which would make them party poopers (assuming they’d be missed).

This really needs saying right off the bat — Boxee is an iTunes killer. Granted, it hasn’t quite finished baking and the fillings still need a bit tweaking, as well. But, these guys have big ambitions and they’re within sniffing distance of achieving them.

According to user reports, the patch released Saturday only addresses the “lost all media” issue but not any of the other — freezing, random restarts, overheating, sluggishness, vanishing networks, display issues — problems that have plagued Steve Jobs’ hobby since the release of Apple TV 3.0.
