A warranty intermediary says that HP has the worst reliability and Asus the best when it comes to notebook computers. And — this should come as no surprise — netbooks are 20 percent more likely than full size laptops to break in the first year.

Both the hackintosh maker and Apple had requested summary judgements from the bench, a risky move that could have delivered a stinging rebuke and lopsided defeat to either side. Nevertheless, it was the Cupertino, California-based Mac, iPod and iPhone that prevailed with the judge coming down against the illegal cloner on nearly every charge — a likely death blow.

As Apple rolls into what looks to be yet another record setting holiday shopping quarter, on the heels of the company’s most profitable quarter ever, giving an accolade to the man who’s listed by name among the patent and trademark docs for the iMac, iPod and iPhone seems a safe bet. Shallow praise for the father of the Jesus phone?

Geez Louise this has gotta sting and more than a little. To date, two of the more prominent Web metrics firms have pegged Microsoft’s operating system launch somewhere between good for Apple and the Mac, to better than Vista. So much for a holiday home run for Redmond this Christmas shopping season.

When the Miami, Florida-based hackintosh maker hit the scene back April 2008, the company made quite a splash, becoming the first company to openly advertise and sell Apple’s OS X on generic PC hardware. However, like their first computers, the Rebel EFI might charitably be called a work in progress with little in the way of documentation or help available.

Yes, great artists do steal, but there is an art to larceny. However, watching this video of the opening of Redmond’s Scottsdale, Arizona retail store, seeing how it’s designed, the employees dressed and customers greeted with whoops and high fives leaves one feeling cheapened.

The world beyond the 1 Infinite Loop woke this morning with visions of ultra-thin iMacs dancing in their heads, but Apple has left us guessing once again. Thereupon, with Microsoft to set begin its Vista SP4 Windows 7 assault, Steve Jobs and his merry band of deviants have already disrupted Redmond’s best laid plans by doing nothing.

The last time I touched on this subject, I was heading out the door for an extended road trip with the hope of getting a quick Apple Store diagnosis and in-store fix. Those hopes dashed and an utter lack of time left me with a scratchy palm rest for a couple more months, but there is a happy end to this story.
